In 1978, Slimdor Holdings was founded by Jens & Dorothy Bach. Their first major project was the reclamation of the Canmore Coal Mines. A 3000-acre site that now forms much of the area known as Three Sisters.

Slimdor was awarded a contract with Lafarge Canada to supply and mine raw materials for the Exshaw cement plant. This became the foundation of a 26-year long relationship providing raw material supply and rip rap production.

In 1988, company was purchased by Jens & Dorothy Bach’s son Rich, and daughter Nancy. They then renamed the company to Slimdor Contracting Ltd., a title under which it has since operated.

By the mid-1990s, Slimdor grew beyond large industrial contracts into municipal and governmental civil works. 1995 marked a clear expansion of Slimdor’s portfolio beyond mining and aggregates into maintenance contracts for municipal landfills and flood protection, riverbank restoration, trail maintenance, and campground construction for Alberta Environment.

Slimdor achieved indemnified status with the City of Calgary, a major milestone in the company’s history. This allowed Slimdor to directly perform city infrastructure tie-ins, greatly expanding the scope and value of projects it could take on.

Slimdor completed its first major provincial project for Alberta Transportation on the Stoney Trail Extension, contributing to interchange and earthworks packages associated with the ring road expansion.

Slimdor facilitated the transportation of a Canadian Pacific Railway locomotive from Gulf Canada Square to their new head office. This project highlighted Slimdor’s longstanding partnership with CP (now known as CPKC), which has encompassed various civil and infrastructure projects over the years. To this day, Slimdor continues to provide CPKC with civil and infrastructure work supporting their daily operations.

Today, Slimdor continues to deliver a broad range of civil, utility, and earthworks projects, supporting developers, municipalities, and government agencies, demonstrating continuous growth, technical expertise, and the ability to handle large-scale projects across Alberta.
